Can this product be installed over green board rather than direct to stud?

Hi Blake, Thank you for your question regarding our Delta Faucet B12205-4834-WH. Glue-up units can only be installed against Green Board or untreated sheetrock. Walls cannot be painted or primed; otherwise, the unit will not adhere to the wall correctly. Do not install over paneling or tile (grout may affect tub). Can I purchase just the left side of the shower wall? I have a large scratch in that wall and would like to replace.
