Another question regarding the 1600 series. Many of the attached questions herein are old and the answers state that the trim and escutcheon, etc, were only available in chrome finish. Has Delta possibly added Brushed Nickle to the available finishes?

Asked by: Jimmer
Thank you for your question, Jimmer! Currently none of the trim pieces for a discontinued 1600 series shower are offered in the Stainless Steel or Brushed Nickel finish and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Best regards, Edward

What bonnet and sleeve can be paired with this stem?

I believe I will reuse the escutcheon I have (although it is not preferred). I am also wondering what handle - prefer a knob rather than a lever-type handle.
Asked by: crazyratt
Hi crazyratt, Thank you for your question. The bonnet nut for the 1600 series is RP6079 and the sleeve is RP6081. The knob handle that will work with your model is H71. The escutcheon plate is RP7577 (no diverter hole) or RP7578 (with push-button diverter hole). Am I able to upgrade my 1600 without replacing the housing it fits into? And if so what to?

Asked by: Brian
Hi, Brian! Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, we no longer make new trim kits for the Delta 1600 Series Valve Bodies. We do recommend to change the valve body to our Delta MultiChoice Universal R10000 Rough Valve Body to upgrade the trim. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Best Regards, Rosanna

Is there a trim kit on the market compatible with this unit?

I have an old Delta Scald Guard trim kit that I need to replace and this is the unit RP1991 in the wall (not the plastic cartridge) that is compatible with the trim kits I have found on market (primarily using your site, Home Depot and Lowes). Please point me in the right direction! I have uploaded images of the fully assembled trim kit that was on their, the
Asked by: Jamie
Jamie, thank you for your question. We have available the cartridge (Delta part #RP1991), however, the square escutcheon plate is not available. Our round escutcheon plate (Delta part #RP6083) is available to use, but the hole size in the wall would need to be smaller than the square. We recommend replacing both the rough-in valve as well as the trim.

Will Delta part #RP6083 fit my

Please see picture. I have this cartridge RP1991 installed. The crystal knob is very close to the wall, and the hole on the wall is very small. Will plate #RP6083 fit? If it does, do you have a bronze one? if RP6083 won't fit, what do you recommend? Thank you very much!
Asked by: Grace
Hi Grace, Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model RP1991 is for a 1600 series faucet and model RP6083 is for a 600 series faucet. We do have an escutcheon plate that will fit your 1600 series faucet with model RP7577, but it only available in Chrome finish. Thanks. Jody

I just discovered that the hot and cold operation is reversed on my RP1991. Can this be corrected by reversing the cartridge or do I need a plumber to switch the pipes in the wall?

Asked by: Bikeracer161
Thank you for your question, Bikeracer161! The RP1991 cartridge is found on the 1600 series and moving the handle from the right to the left, starting cold then moving to hot. The raised stop on the cartridge should be placed on the left of the valve as this is usually where the hot water is coming in from, however this cartridge can be reversed for back-to-back installations or situations where the supplies are reversed. can u show me how to install this part thank you

Asked by: littlemike2
Hi littlemike2, Thank you for your question! I have attached the parts diagram for the 1600 series for reference. First, please make sure that the water supplies are turned off to the valve. Remove the handle by removing the Phillips head screw on the front. If you have a clear knob handle, pry the cap off to get to the screw. Unscrew the bonnet nut. You should then be able to pull out the stem unit. You can scoop out the seats and springs using a pencil or Allen wrench. Best regards, Jon

Can you help me to identify what model # my tub faucet is?

I need to know the Model # of my bathtub faucet & lever. I took it to Home Depot but they were unable to help me. They recommended emailing you. Attached are the photos of my shower/tub. What I'm looking for is a new cartridge for a Delta Scald Guard. I understand that has been discontinued. I think the replacement part I need is RP1991 listed below. Can you verify that for me before I place the order? Thanks, Jennifer

1. What model delta shower valve is this? 2. Can you post/email me instructions as to how I change the cartridge?

Asked by: Interelation
Thank you for your question, Interelation! This stem unit is for a 1600 Series tub/shower valve. To replace the stem unit, first, turn off the water supply to the faucet or home. If you have a knob handle, pop off the button cover on the front of the handle. Remove the screw on the front of the handle and pull the handle off of the stem. Unscrew the bonnet nut. Pull out the stem unit and scoop out the seats and springs using the tip of a pencil or a small tool. When installing the new spring, ensure that the wide end goes in first. The seat will sit over the small end of the spring like a cap. Install everything else in reverse order and turn the water back on. Best regards, Jon

how do you raise or lower the hot water with the little screw on rp 1991 stem

Asked by: dad ny
Thank you for your question, dad ny cir! Adjusting the temperature limit stop on this cartridges is as simple as screwing the allen screw located in the base of the brass stem of the cartridge in or out. Turning it to the right will reduce or eliminate travel of control into the maximum hot zone. Best regards, Edward

What Trim kit in stainless steel or brushed nickel is compatible with this cartridge?

Have been trying to get the right size trim for couple of months now. Every kit I tried had a wrong sleeve, which makes it impossible to secure the handle. Please help!
Asked by: Lana
Thank you for your question, Lana. Unfortunately, none of our current trim kits will work on an existing 1600 series valve. To use a current trim kit, you would need to install an R10000 rough-in valve. However, the trim parts for the 1600 series are available in the Chrome finish and can be purchased individually. These are the RP7577 escutcheon, RP6081 sleeve, RP196 screws, RP6079 bonnet. The handle may be replaced with the H71 knob or any H7_ lever handle, such as H79. Best regards, Jon

Asked by: VanB
Thank you for your question, VanB! A 1600 series shower that is dripping when off will only need the RP4993 seats and springs. If they have been changed; however, and the issue persists or the model is leaking under the handle, the entire RP1991 assembly should be replaced as well. Best regards, Edward

What is the trim kit item number? Looking for nickel/stainless steel with a lever handle

What is the series/part number for this rough-in? I am looking for nickel/stainless steel with a lever handle trim kit and a tub spout with diverter. Receiver for spout is over inch wide width.
Asked by: Kevin A
Thank you for your question. This valve looks like a 1600 series valve and we do not have new trim kits available for this valve. Based on the pictures that you sent, it looks like the valve has been twisted. We would recommend replacing the valve with our multi-choice valve, R10000-UNBX and then you could add your stainless steel trim.

I bought a house built in the 1970's. The shower leaks and has one controller for the water and temp. It is a Delta product but I have no idea what model it is. The only identifying marks on it is "Delta Scald Guard" on it. Any idea what cartridge it is?
