Is this knob available in a solid "White?"

Unfortunately, we do not manufacture a knob style handle in solid white. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

what is the correct way to control the hot and cold flow of water on a single control lavatory faucet?
Thank you for your question. Based on the knob handle that you chose, it sounds like you have a single-handled lavatory faucet. The way to operate this faucet is to push up or forward on the know to turn it on and then pivot it left for hot water and right for cold water. Adjust the water temperature to you liking by moving the handle from left to right.

Can this replace a discontinued model acrylic single arc handle that measures 2-1/4" x 1- 1/4"?

The RP52220 is manufactured for the 500-DST, this handle may fit your discontinued faucet but may have a gap.
