Directions say that R10000-UNBXHF has universal inlets with expansion pex support, but also says use correct fittings. Does it come with the fittings? Or do you mean find a coupler from the IPS threads to an expansion barb? Thanks.

Asked by: James
Hello James, Thank you for your question. The Delta MultiChoice Universal Rough-In Valve R10000-UNBX does not come with fittings for added piping. This valve will accept 1/2" copper, 1/2" iron pipe. PEX, or CPVC adapters. Keep in mind that if you install a tub spout, you will need copper between the valve and tub drop. Please feel free to call, email, or message us on social if there is anything else you need. Difference between R10000-UN & R10000-UNBX

I have a Delta R10000-UN and in my Delta collection book, I don't find this specific shower valve body and all I see are R10000-UNBX. Is there a difference? Thanks.
Asked by: Peter Melan
Hi Peter, Thank you for your question. There is no difference between the R10000-UN and the R10000-UNBX. The R10000-UN is sold in a case quantity of 12 pieces only. The R10000-UNBX can be purchased individually. Thanks, Dave

How far can you turn the valve stops counter clockwise to open? Will they reach a point and stop so I don't run the risk of turning too far?

Asked by: Dave
Thank you for your question, Dave! They will stop turning when fully open. You can turn the stops clockwise up to three full turns from the open position without a noticeable reduction in flow. Best regards, Jon

Difference between R10000UNBX and R10000UNHF

What exactly is the main difference between the UNBX and UNHF? I understand the UNHF has no tub port as it is capped off at factory. If I took the UNBX, capped off the tub port, does that make it HF? Is there actually a higher flow rate coming through the UNHF model as opposed to the UNBX model, or is it just the tub port being capped that makes the UNHF a high flow?
Asked by: J
Hi J, Thank you for question. The R10000-UNHF does not have a port to the tub spout at all, not just the R10000-UNBX capped off. The capped off R10000-UNBX would offer a higher flowrate than one using the tub spout, but not as high a flowrate as the R10000-UNBXHF. Thanks, Dave

Can you adjust the valve so you can get more hot water

Asked by: Ban
Dear Ban, Thank you for your question. The Delta Universal MultiChoice R10000-UNBX valve assembly does not have a temperature controls adjustment on or in it. You would adjust the limit stop of the unit, for hotter or colder water. https://www.deltafaucet.com/cms/render/live/en/sites/delta/home/video-gallery/video-page.html?videoId=n2_uZ7wgV1I Best regards, Tanya

Was R10000-UNBX valve body used with 1343 valve 11 years ago?

I am about to rebuild my 11 year old shower that was installed with a Delta 1343 valve at that time. I will be taking down the walls and retiling. I plan to replace the shower trim package. Was the R10000-UNBX body used then and, if so, should I replace it with a new valve body?
Asked by: Bitsmasher
Hi Bitsmasher, Thank you for your question. The R10000-UNBX would not have been used in the model 1343 faucet from 11 years ago. The valve was introduced in February of 2006. You will be able to use the new T13/14 series trims with your existing valve body. The new trim ships with a new cartridge but you would have to continue to use the existing cartridge or replace it with a new RP19804. Switching the valve body out to a new R10000-UNBX multichoice universal rough would allow you to install any of our faucet trims and allow you to switch out finishes, or upgrade the faucet in the future without changing the valve. Thanks, Dave

i installed 13/14, 17 & 17T series MultiChoice valve trim 4 years ago. Been have trouble since. When the Kids give the grand kids bath the water trickles out the shower head too! Strong out of tub. Seems when we open sink valve the shower head slows down a bit so we think it's the excellant water pressure in the house. Delta said to use R10000-UNWS valve body instead???
Asked by: George Z
Hi George Z, Thank you for your question. Most likely, you are experiencing "shower-rise" where the water can’t get out of the spout as fast as it flows through the valve. This causes the water to back up and come out the shower head. There can be one of several reasons for this: The valve could be upside down The length from the valve to the tub spout is outside of the 8" to 18" rule There is more than one 90-degree angle Something other than copper or galvanized pipe was used going to the spout The most common reason is that there is something restricting the water flow to the spout, e.g. solder or something lodged in the pipe. Something is impeding the flow of water to the spout and causing it to back up and go out the shower head. If this is the cause of shower-rise it is possible to remove the blockage by removing the tub spout; then, feeding a plumber’s snake or a speedometer cable up through the tub drop. The act of feeding it causes it to twirl and loosen the blockage. Be sure to flush the valve before reinstalling the tub spout. Be sure to check the tub spout itself for blockage. If none of these help, you may need to call a plumber. After the shower has been installed and the wall has been closed, there is little that can be done to remedy this situation yourself. There would be no benefit to switching the valve body. Thanks, Dave

I have solar heated water tank, so the tank temperature varies - cloudy days mean cooler water. Do I need Pressure Balance or Thermostatic cartridges to maintain the shower water temperature setpoint from day-to-day with a T17 trim kit?

Asked by: Rainforest
Hi Rainforest, Thank you for your question. All Delta tub and shower faucets are engineered to keep the water temperature within a safe ±3.6° F (±1.7° C)*. This technology makes sure your family doesn’t experience a sudden and possibly unsafe change in water temperature as a result of running water elsewhere. Is the test cap and bonnet water-pressured tight?

When the rough-in valve is installed does the trim kit and cartridge need to be installed before water pressure is applied? Or, will the test-cap and bonnet hold water pressure on their own?
Asked by: Lance F.
Hi Lance, Thank you for your question. The test cap will prevent water from exiting the valve. However, in order to leave the water supplies turned on you will also need a test plug (RP46079) as well, or install the cartridge, to prevent cross flow. Without the plug or cartridge installed, water from one side can force its way into the other side (hot/cold supplies). https://www.deltafaucet.com/parts-product-detail?modelNumber=RP46079 Best regards, Jon

Can this be installed upside down and have off on the right side when looking at it?

Before installing this unit I asked the owner if the hot was on the left and the cold was on the right to make sure. It is an older house and I wanted to make sure. Yes hot on left I was told. After installing cold comes out hot side and hot comes out cold side, with off on the right side when looking at it.I rotated the rotation stop all the way open and sure enough the cold got colder. I crawled under the house and followed the lines from where they are connected to the main lines, The cold is run up the hot side and the hot is run up the cold side. Since the hot service line is run up the cold side and the cold service line is run up the hot side how could it be possible to have been hot on left and cold on right before the new installation. I have been in construction for over 30 years and I am not considering myself a plumber but I have done my share of plumbing.
Asked by: M
Dear M, Than you for your question. If you are getting reversed water flow from hot and cold, we would advised removing the cartridge assembly and rotating it 180 degrees and reinstalling it back in the valve. This would correct the reversed water flow you are having. Best regards, Tanya

I currently have a builder installed shower which has the R10000-UNWS roug along with the T14051 trim. The lower connection of the rough is capped. Is it possible to add a diverter functionality to this setup which would allow me to add a hand spray

Asked by: John
Thank you for your question, John! There are a couple options to divert the water between the shower head and a hand shower. The first is an in-wall diverter, which will require plumbing work. For this, you will need the R11000 Rough-In Valve and a 3-Setting Diverter Trim Kit to match your shower valve trim such as the T11851. You will also need a supply elbow for the hand shower hose, such as the 50560. https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/product/R11000 https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/product/T11851 https://www.deltafaucet.com/parts-product-detail?modelNumber=50560 The second option is to use a shower arm diverter, such as the U4923-PK or U4929-PK. https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/product/U4923-PK https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/product/U4929-PK Best regards, Jon

Why isn't cpvc an option?

Asked by: KevinO
Hi KevinO, Thank you for your question! This valve can be adapted for use with CPVC. Please note that if you will be installing a tub spout, the drop from the bottom port of the valve must be 1/2" copper or 1/2" galvanized pipe as the internal diameter of the pipe is important to prevent back-pressure. CPVC may be used for the supplies and/or shower. Best regards, Jon

I want to use this valve for a shower only installation. Will that work with this valve? Are there instructions?

Asked by: Mark
Thank you for your question, Mark! The "HF" or "High Flow" rough valves feature a blocked, pre-soldered tub port in order to provide the maximum flow rate to a shower head or diverter trim. Any MultiChoice Universal valve without the "HF" marking will work with a tub spout. The tub spout should produce approximately 4.8-9.8gpm depending on valve used and the PSI in your home. Below is a link to our current price books. The flow rate guide can be found on page 289 of the 2018 price book. Please contact us directly if you have any further questions. https://www.deltafaucet.com/for-professionals/product-resources/catalogs--brochures Best regards, Edward

Pex from valve to shower head

i understand why pex can't be used from the valve to the tub but the reasoning would not seem to apply in a shower only application. Is there any reason I can't run pex from the valve to the shower head? Also, I see that some people are installing the valve upside down to get greater flow to the shower. What is the rate of flow if installed normally and what is the rate of flow if installed upside down? Thank you
Asked by: Swiftowl
Hi Swiftowl, Thank you for your question! You may use PEX tubing from the valve to the shower head or the supplies. To increase the available flow rate for customer shower applications, we recommend to use a High Flow (HF) valve, such as the R10000-UNBXHF, which will increase the flow rate by about 1 gallon per minute at 60 PSI. We do not recommend installing a standard valve upside down. Thanks, Jon

Thank you for your question, Hans! The T14459-BLLHD trim kit includes a valve assembly cartridge that features a rotational limit stop. Asked by: ANTHONY'S PLUMBING
Dear Anthony's Plumbing, Thank you for your inquiry! What you are experiencing is called shower-rise. Someone has made an installation error in your wall. Here are the four things to check. 1. The distance between the center of the valve body to the center of the tub spout must be between 8 and 18 inches. 2. You must use straight ½” copper or ½” iron piping for the piping down to the tub spout. No PVC piping, PEX piping, drop ear elbows or shark fittings are allowed for the piping going to the tub spout. 3. You can only use one 90 degree elbow with the piping going to the tub spout. There should be no shark or gator bite fitting for the elbow connection. 4. The main valve body must be installed right side up. https://www.deltafaucet.com/service-parts/faq#answer-c3ad508e-2cd4-4b5a-8af5-3f75cacd1f90 Best regards, Tanya

Asked by: Lou
Hi Lou, Thank you for your question! R10000 Rough-In Valves are designed to work with 13/14, 17, or 17T Series Trim Kits, which will control the volume and temperature of the tub/shower. The R11000 Rough-In Valve is a diverter valve that works with a 3 or 6 Setting Diverter Trim kits and will transfer water flow between 2 or 3 showering components. Just ordered r1000-unwsbxt tub/shower valve. I am replacing an old 3-handle valve with the use of a remodel plate. My problem is distance between the tub spout and faucet centers can only be 7 " max. Will this cause stacking?

Asked by: jmd46
Hi, jmd46! Thank you for your question. The valve body to the tub spout assembly would need to have a distance between 8"-18" to prevent shower-rise. "Shower-rise"is when water can’t get out of the spout as fast as it flows through the valve. This causes the water to back up and come out the shower head when the user only wants the tub spout to flow. Best Regards, Rosanna
